NcFTPd : Frequently Asked Questions : Miscellaneous

Is the format of the logs documented anywhere?

Yes, for the xfer logs and session logs.

Do I have to use NcFTP Client with NcFTPd Server?

No!  NcFTPd is designed to work with any RFC 959 compliant FTP client program.  This means that there are dozens if not hundreds of client programs you can use, on a wide variety of platforms.

Why isn’t Linux/Alpha supported?

Binary compatibility problems among different versions of the Alpha are the culprit.  Specifically, our main Alphalinux box is running a “alphaev56” CPU, but binaries generated by this CPU aren’t compatible with older Alphas.  There just isn’t enough demand for this platform to justify a port anyway.

Why isn’t there an OpenBSD port?

An OpenBSD/x86 port is on the To-Do list, but there are a lot of things with higher priority.  There are also some issues involving OpenBSD’s different password authentication mechanisms which will need to be resolved.  Until then, some daring users have experimented with using the BSD/OS or FreeBSD version of NcFTPd in emulation on their OpenBSD host, but be warned that this is not a supported nor tested configuration!
